"THE TRUTH ABOUT BULLSHIT" W/ G TRUTH NOW F/ NEW YORK

"THE TRUTH ABOUT BULLSHIT'

                G TRUTH NOW!!
 INTERVIEWED: BY DJ MINDCONTROL

Me: Cool... So tell us who you are, where you rep, and what you rep...

G: my name is Truth Now, I'm from the greater NYC area.
Me: What crew do you rep?
G: Fam!LL, a New York think tank and associated artists.
Me: Who's all in your crew?
G: BS founded it and was like Charles Xavier getting his team all ridiculous.
Albert Rhymestein, the freestyle legend in the making.
Grey Matter, the Beat Boxer and mgmt.
Steve Fox, the poet from Memphis.
Brooklyn's own Warren Britt.
The MC Faceman for that hardcore.
QV sings the soul of the Bronx.
Me: I'm currently playing The Truth About Bullshit, what's that all about?
G: Its something that just developed organically as my friendship and working relationship with BS did. We started with one joint that we thought was gonna be for a mixtape, then before too long, we knew we had to give this project the focus it deserved. So we started debates. Challenged each others paradigms, and evolved with the music.
Me: Is this your first release?
G: It's my second release, the first one was The Karma Alarm Mixtape.
Me: What style would you say best describes your style?
G: Gonzo rhyming.
Me: Funny shit... I actually caught you on the "conspiracy circuit" You into conspiracies?
G: I'm not personally involved with any that I know of...
Me: Or topics that are very 'controversial'?
G: I let the research take me where it needs to.
Me: Your music is very descriptive...
G: I'm not afraid of kicking the hornet's nest. Thank you.
Me: A lot of mc's wont go into the political raps. You have no problem...
G:  A lot of mc's arent even mc's.
Me: You have a track called "Obama Won't Save You".
G: That's true...
Me: Can you tell us a little about it? Great track.
G: Sure. It's produced by Eric Biondo, Jordan Mclean and I. It's a meditation on self reliance. It's a good way to twist your tounge. Things of that nature.
Me: I notice Antibalas is in this track whats your association w/ Antibalas?
G: The two producers are in Antibalas and so is the guitarist Luke Riverside. They are Afrobeat kings. So I look up to them and I dance when they play live.
Me: Nice... Very uplifting sound. Is this what you grew up on?
G: Nah I grew up on x107.
Me: What was in your walkman as a shorty?
G: Nirvana, RHCP, Rage, Pumpkins... Then later came things like Mos Def, J5, Legendary Roots Crew. Gift of Gab.
Me: What drove you to the mic? Any one mc?
G: Not any one mc... Immortal Technique's content. KRS' philosophy. Biggie's flow.
Me: Like Minneapolis, NY is huge on freestyling?
G: Yes.
Me: Did you first get into that?
G: We freestyle for days.
Me: I notice great vids of you freestyling on Facebook by the way, classic.
G: Fam!LL is notorious for beasting Union Square Park on the cipher tip.
Me: Nice! So it was your B-day a few days back, happy birthday yo! I heard you had a great night. Can you elaboarate on your b-day night?
G: Thanks bro. Yes...
Me: Something about Black Sheep?
G: I opened for them. It was pretty dope.
Me: Who else was on the roster?
G: I put Technicolor Lenses on the bill. BS and AR came through to rock with me. and Pyscho Les of the Beatnuts was ripping too.
Me: Hell yeah! Sounds like a dope birthday.
Not only that but recently for y'all who don't know, you won a trip to South America? You have to tell us the scoop on this.
G: Sure. Gimme a sec.
Me: Do I hear a bubbler...?
G: The Chimbre Shamanic Retreat Center outside Puerto Maldanado in the Peruvian Amazon was having an open arts submission contest.
No bubbler. Not till sunset.
Me: Haha...
So this was online submission?
G: I sent them the single off TABS. Which is cosmic surfing. Exactly.
Me: How did you find this? A dope song by the way.
G: I sent an email and twenty minutes later I heard big things back from the staff although the decision wasn't final for a couple weeks.
Me: Damn! That's word son!
G: I know about Chimbre cuz my better half was a cook there in the spring.
Me: Ahhh... I'm from Central America, I'm sure you had the time of your life... What did it entail?
G: Bet, I really did. I went first to the Amazon to drink sacred plant medicines. Then to Cuzco for a couple days. Then to Aguas Calientes for a couple days. One of which is the day of the Machu Pichu Jawn. (youtube.com/truthnowmusic)
Me: Ahhh so nice. Beautiful. That's quite the surprse trip... Cool, yeah I saw that.
G: Yeah I paid for the 2nd and third week, Chimbre had my back on all the airfare though.
Me: Wow 3 weeks...
G: Yes sir.
Me: So what would you say this trip did for your music?
G: Everything. New eyes. Refreshed spirit.
Me: I bet, that's a once in a lifetime most never get.
G: Exponential love and compassion was gifted to me by ancient trees.
Me: Wow, you are blessed my man... It shows in your music I must say, you have a very clear visoin of what you want to say... A very valued trait for an mc.
G: Thats what's up. Respect.
Me: Not only that but your voice is dope too.
Hah!
G: Shut up or I will blush.
Me: So let's get back to the music tip...
G: Always.
Me: What is Sound Chemistry?
G: Sound Chemistry Records is an experiment in independent music. Can't legally go any further into it then that. It's a home to some, it's family to others.
Me: Nice. Gotcha.
Movin' on.... What's coming in the future with G Truth?
G: Two big things in the works. The Prohibition EP with Dubble from CHI, and early next year a solo full length concept album executive produced by SriKala called: Lies My Teacher Told Me.
Me: Nice... Sounds dope.
G: Yeah its gonna be a lot of fun.
Me: Any weekly's or shows on the calendar you wanna mention?
G: I'm looking to expand on successes and deny myself the learning experience we call failure.
Me: Haha...
G: Saturday in Bethlehem PA at the Wild Flower with Technicolor Lenses and Steve Fox. And helping shape the second coming of XANAPOLS with Adi Love details: T.B.A.
Me: You are a motivated artist.... I wanna thank you for the interview. Thanks for letting us kids in MPLS know what's up!
G: I want to thank you for keeping it true.
Me: Any shout outs or last words of inspiration?
G: Be your own bullhorn, harness your inner megaphone, release the control system from your life, thank the Bilderberg Group for showing us everything we must never become.
Me: Word up to that! Look out for this kid in the future and I will post your links on my blog...
